The Pinnacles Desert Loi

In my opinion, I chose this wonderful place (The Pinnacles Desert) because of its magnificent scenery and the limestone pillars which vary in shape and size, it is said that the scenery is best viewed at dawn or dusk because the pillars cast long, strange shadows over the yellow sand.

The Pinnacles Desert is one of Australia's best known landscapes. Here, thousands of huge limestone pillars are scattered in the yellow sand. It is located in Nambung National park which has many features such as beautiful beaches, coastal dune systems, shady groves of tuart trees and one of the best things that occurs during August and October is that the place bursts into flowers creating a wonderful memories for tourists.

The Pinnacles Desert was unknown until the late 1960s, when the Department of Lands and Surveys agreed to add the  area to the Nambung national park, which had been established in 1956. Today the park is visited by approximately 150,000 visitors, from all over the world, each year.
Nambung is an Aboriginal word that means crooked.
There are animals that live here but they are mostly nocturnal.
However it is normal to see western grey kangaroos, emus and many sorts of reptiles and birds around the stones.

My chosen site The Pinnacles Desert fulfils requirements 7 and 8 in the UNESCO natural criteria.
These were 2 requirements my site fulfilled:
7. To contain superlative natural phenomena or areas of exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance.
8. To be outstanding examples representing major stages of earth's history, including the record of life, significant on-going geological processes in the development of landforms, or significant geomorphic or physio graphic features.

5 Features worth preserving:
  • Limestone Pillars
  • Yellow sand
  • Flowers
  • Limestone Caves
  • Animals

If this site is World Hertiage listed it would have more tourists coming, it would be under better management, it would have better protection for the place and it could be an opportunity for people to find jobs there.
